Good Digital Hygiene for Startups, or Good Start, is an Erasmus+ project funded by the European Commission. This initiative aims to foster a safer and more resilient digital environment for startups by equipping them with essential digital hygiene practices. The project supports small businesses in developing critical skills to protect their digital assets and reduce risks from cyber threats.
Challenge
Many startups face cybersecurity challenges due to limited awareness of digital hygiene practices. Without a structured approach to secure digital routines, small businesses remain vulnerable to cyber-attacks, which can disrupt operations and damage reputations. Additionally, these startups often lack access to the resources and guidance necessary to adopt and maintain good digital hygiene.
Solution
The Good Start project addresses this need by developing a comprehensive Digital Hygiene Behavior Index and creating tailored training resources. The project includes interactive online materials and an open educational platform that empowers startups to understand and implement essential cybersecurity practices. Additionally, a handbook was developed to guide both startups and Vocational Education and Training (VET) providers in fostering long-term digital hygiene habits.
Results
Through Good Start, over 60 startups in partner countries are improving their digital hygiene practices. These businesses have access to a range of resources, including assessment tools and training modules, which help them to safeguard their digital infrastructure. The project has also influenced VET providers, who are now better equipped to support startups with practical, high-quality training on digital hygiene.
